1st Floor Blue Mug designed by Adam Nathaniel Furman
“In the grand classical manner of the very best salons of old, this mug is raised up on a vaulted arcade so that it may occupy the airy summit of its own ‘Piano Nobile’. Elevated above the common detritus of your breakfast table, this dining item elegantly maintains the dignified sanctity of your morning brew.”
Designed and hand crafted in Britain, a decidedly contemporary product that joyously embraces the past, and architectural tradition, the 1st Floor mugs are produced in Stoke on Trent, the great heart of the UK's world-beating ceramics industry.
Norman Tempest 'I was contacted by Adam Thow, Director of Commercial Operations at Sir John Soane's Museum. Adam was aware of my interest in design as we are both members of the acceptance panel of Design Nation.
Working with one of the computer generated mugs our modeller made an exact copy. In ceramics items are individually cast, the process using liquid clay which is poured into Plaster of Paris moulds. The handles are applied individually and then the item is dipped into coloured clay. After that the process is relatively straight forward with a first firing (biscuit) followed by an application of transparent glaze, then a second and final firing.' - Royal Stafford UK
The mugs stand 120 mm high and are 80 mm wide
