Soane Breakfast Set Large Plate
Regular price £40.00
Introducing the Soane Breakfast Set, a seven piece tableware set – designed to serve breakfast and afternoon tea - draws on many of the innovative details found in Soane’s Breakfast Room, a room that is highly characteristic of his style. Features including convex mirrors, ‘canopy’ domes and ancient Greek detailing have been cleverly and delicately incorporated into each piece in different combinations, through the use of chrome and circular shapes. Common in nearly every piece however, is a striking red colour, which is taken from engravings found in the Breakfast Room, which feature the rich red murals of the Villa Negroni in ancient Rome. The discovery of the Villa in 1778 caused a sensation and it left such a lasting impression on the architect, that he used this so-called ‘Pompeii’ red throughout the Museum and its ubiquity is reflected throughout the set.
Designed by Helen M. Strevens, an honours graduate from Auckland architecture school, Helen M. Strevens received her baptism by fire as a set designer on epic film trilogy Lord of the Rings.
Strevens established HMS Studio in 2011 as a way to express her passion for art, particularly hand-drawing, and create an avenue which combines her design experience with a lifelong desire to bring beauty to everyday life.
