In 1775, Claude-Nicolas Ledoux designed a Musical Theatre in Besançon, France, which was built between 1778 and 1784. Taken from Ledoux's 'L'Architecture Consideree' 1804, this striking image shows a reflection of the Besançon auditorium in the pupil of a human eye. 

This etching, probably by Ledox himself, is an embodiment of his concept of all architecture as a spectacle of which the architect is both author and spectator. Soane shared his interest in spatial compositions that stimulated the senses and the imagination of the viewer.
