This watercolour drawing illustrates the Alhambra at Kew Gardens, designed by William Chambers to echo the palace built by the Arab rulers of Spain in Grenada during the 13th century. Chambers also took inspiration from a number of other sources, including a Turkish mosque, a ruined arch, and several temples.
