Drawing by Candlelight
A candlelit evening at Sir John Soane's Museum, exploring the art of architectural drawing.
To mark The 2018 Architecture Drawing Prize – an international competition for architectural drawing, created in collaboration with Make Architects and the World Architecture Festival – and the final week of the competitions’ exhibition at Sir John Soane’s Museum, we invite guests to bring along their sketchbooks to an exclusive after-hours candlelit event. Participate in drawing workshops, watch live demonstrations and listen to curators’ talks across three drawing strands:
Drawing Live – Four architectural practitioners, including Ken Shuttleworth (MAKE Architects) and Narinder Sagoo (Fosters and Partners) will entertain guests in our library dining room with a live, pecha-kucha drawing event.
Drawing Lab – Try out different etching, sketching and shading techniques in mini drawing workshops in the atmospheric museum kitchens and crypt, led by Benedict O’Looney.
Drawing Talks – Join our museum staff for a number of exciting spotlight talks, exploring our collections of architectural drawings, including works by Piranesi, Gandy, Hawksmoor and a sketchbook studied by Michelangelo.
This is a rare opportunity to use sketch books and take pictures inside the museum after hours. Tickets include a glass of wine served in our South Drawing Room.
There are two entry times: 6.00pm and 7.30pm. Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes.
To book choose the date (16 Nov) and then your desired time slot.
Your confirmation email serves as your ticket.
Tickets are refundable up to 7 days before the event, after which point they are non-refundable or exchangeable.
