Strangers Guide To London Map 1837
Regular price $61.00
Individually handmade made in the family-run workshop of craftsman Phillip Burrough, this map is laid on high-quality cloth and beautifully presented in an antique marbled slip case.
Mogg's Strangers Guide to London was first printed in 1837, the year in which Soane died. It was originally made by the publisher and engraver Edward Mogg who specialised in maps and guides of London and its surroundings. Folding maps came into being in the mid-18th century when turnpike roads became extensive and good enough to make long-distance travel easier. This map offers a fascinating insight into London's development over Soane's working life.
