To accompany the exhibition Soane's Ark: Building with Symbols, Factum Foundation for Digital Technology in Conservation have produced a series of models of the Ark of the Masonic Covenant in plaster, painted resin and patinated bronze.
The Ark was designed by Soane for the Freemasons in 1813 but was lost in a fire in 1883. To coincide with the tercentenary of the establishment of Freemasonry, this piece of ritual furniture has been reconstructed from the extant designs. To create the models, Factum Foundation 3D scanned the reconstruction, 3D printed a scale version in wax, moulded the 3D print and finally cast from the mould.
These models are made to order and take four to six weeks before they are ready to be shipped.
