This dynamic naval scene, 'Admiral van Tromp's Barge at the Entrance to the Texel, 1645', demonstrates the influence of Dutch-inspired seascapes on the work of English artist J. M. W. Turner.
Sir John Soane developed a close friendship with Turner throughout his lifetime and purchased this painting from the Royal Academy exhibition in 1831. It remains on public display in the North Drawing Room of the Sir John Soane's Museum.
